Live a Life of Love

“ Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

Ephesians 5:2

Cone on your head

If you sat on the road with a cone on your head for the rest of your life, God would still love you. What we do for God whether it is serving or even worshipping and praying doesn’t make God love us more. God loves us full stop. That is what unconditional love is, it doesn’t have any conditions. So why do we serve, worship, pray and do what we do for God? When you have received the love of God and continue to receive and get revelation of the love of God it changes you. It changes what you do, why you do it and how you do it.

More than a feeling
When people speak of love a whole range of ideas come to mind. Some see love as soft, weak and unimportant in the real affairs of life. The love of God is the motivation for Jesus allowing His body to be ripped apart and hung on a tree to change the course of history for the whole of humanity. Love of the Jesus kind is so exceptionally powerful. The love of God in us empowers us to do extraordinary things for God that we would not have the motivation or grace to do otherwise.

Don't slam the food down
Have you ever seen someone working hard serving up meals to people but slamming down the plates when they serve it because they are annoyed at being the one who has to do it. It wrecks all their hard work and effort. Perhaps on that day when Martha complained about her sister not helping serve to Jesus she was “slamming the plates down”. Even if we don’t literally slam plates down, if we do so in our heart it’s the same. It’s important that we do serve and not sit back while others are doing everything and yet if our attitude is begrudging or out of sync with the value of love then we are wrecking all our hard work.

Check your Love Meter
Symptoms: Winey, judging others, unmotivated, worn down
Diagnosis: Low love meter

It’s quite simple, if we don’t take time to allow God to break into our hearts and fill us with His love, our “love meters” will be low and we will not be going anywhere fast. Living a “live a life of love” is not optional for a Christian and it is impossible without being filled up regularly. When we take time not just to pray our lists but to get filled with the love of God everything is different and we are able to be who Jesus called us to be.

Extraordinary things happen in us and through us when we are fuelled by and preserved by the love of God. May we all take time in God’s presence to be filled with His love daily and enjoy all the benefits.

With our love and prayers,

Pastors Phil and Caroline.
